President Adama Barrow has used his constitutional powers to sacked Chief Ajai Janneh of Kombo South District, West Coast Region of The Gambia reports Foroyaa.
The report says Janneh received his dismissal letter as the head of the Kombo South District authority on Wednesday 30th August.
Mr. Janneh, who is a native of Gunjur village, has been replaced on the same day, by Mr. Lamin Darboe, also a native of the same village.
Under the Gambian constitution, the President has the prerogative to appoint and dismiss district chiefs without explanation. Sources at the West Coast Region Governor`s Office have confirmed the termination of Mr. Janneh`s appointment.
The source added that Janneh`s mandate as Chief of Kombo South expired on Monday 4th September 2017 and the newly appointed Chief, Mr. Lamin Darboe, who was seen at the office of the Governor of the Region, began his duty of tenure.
Former Chief Janneh confirmed on telephone that the information about his dismissal is correct. He said he received a letter from the office of the Governor of West Coast Region dated Wednesday 30th August 2017 that indicated his removal from office.
