Lord Mayor Yankuba Colley of the Kanifing Municipal Council who is also the National Mobiliser of Gambia`s former ruling Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) party has described Halifa Sallah as ‘a patriotic citizen and a politician of a difference’.
Halifa Sallah the Secretary General of the People`s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) approach in handling The Gambia`s 2016 December controversial presidential election is applauded by most Gambians irrespective of political affiliation.
According to Mayor Colley, Mr. Sallah ‘did a wonderful work during the political impasse’ and ‘puts Gambia`s interest first on his agenda’. He added that ‘how Gambia should be in peace and tranquillity is Halifa`s first thought.’
Sallah is admired by many Gambians from different ethnic and religious backgrounds for his oratory skills in grounding his political messages and arguments on statutory and policy materials for an enlightened society.
He was the face of The Gambia`s 2016-2017 political impasse and used his calm demeanour in controlling a fragile national situation amidst rumours of ‘war and violence’, as thousands flee to neighbouring countries including his coalition counterparts.
Just like most young Gambians keen to participating in public and national affairs, Mayor Colley is one of those who benefited from Sallah`s mentorship. He said: “I have been in some situations where problems could come in and as an elderly, he called my attention.
“Then I was very youthful, he gives me a fruitful advice, I always take. I hold him at high esteem. I can always work with him; he is a very good listener.”
